We Can Expand Cloud Grid as Much as Business Needs: Sunil Gupta, Netmagic

How do you see the data centre market changing in India?  With the growing economic and technology transformation today, India’s data center market is witnessing a healthy growth. According to the latest estimates from Gartner, the Indian Data Centre infrastructure market will total $2 billion in 2016. Data centres are an important part of infrastructure and there are several sectors spurring this growth –
  • Our Government, who is hugely focused towards growth and allowing the private sectors to drive the economic growth in the country. Digital India, Startup India, Stand Up India, adoption of JAM (Janardhan, AADHAR, Mobile), and the roll out of the national optic fibre network for the Digital India initiative will rub off positively on the data center business in India.
  • Newer and emerging technologies like Big Data, Analytics, Software-Defined Everything and Internet of Things (IoT) has led to accelerating demand of data center consolidation and virtualization.
  • Growing e-commerce businesses, start-ups and large enterprises alike expect Data Center companies like Netmagic to host their IT infrastructure so that a company use whatever is needed (like real-estate, connectivity, IT systems, etc.) on a subscription basis. Also, more and more companies are becoming aware of disaster recovery, resulting in them approaching data centers.
  • Increased demand of global companies to have their Data Centers (DCs) in India to operating their corporate offices in India, besides having their DC in their HQ. Hence, there is an increased demand in data center business in providing the IT security or support infrastructure at the back-end to ensure their operations run successfully in India.
  • Deeper penetration of Internet across the country with proliferation of 3G and 4G.
How is the hybrid cloud market shaping in India? What kind of cloud innovations is Netmagic bringing? As cloud makes strides in the Indian business space, more and more business enterprises would be looking at hybrid cloud implementations in future. A recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC), for the five-year forecast period says that cloud IT infrastructure spending to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 15.6 percent reaching $54.6 billion by 2019, accounting for 46.5 percent of the total spending on IT infrastructure. And, at the same time, spending on non-cloud IT infrastructure will decline at a -1.4 percent CAGR As the need for speed of execution increases, business enterprises in India are increasingly looking at hybrid cloud deployments. Gartner predicts that 50 per cent of the enterprises will use hybrid cloud by 2017. Adoption of the hybrid cloud is motivated by the need for improved collaboration and greater flexibility and efficiency. IOT, Big Data and Smart Cities are also gaining momentum. What are your thoughts on them? All the three are interconnected and we will see a lot of activity in this space. Indian enterprises will be evaluating emerging technology solutions on innovation and business impact rather than cost and ease of deployment. With personalization becoming the key ingredient in customer management and loyalty, big data analytics is expected to rapidly gain momentum in 2016 and beyond. Big data is supposed to be a $25 billion industry and India has the great opportunity to take a large share from it. The ecommerce sector, retail and FMCG will be the largest consumers for Big Data Analytics in India. Internet of Things (IoT) will get a push in India through the “100 smart cities” initiative taken-up by the Union government. The global Internet of Things market will grow to $1.7 trillion in 2020 from $655.8 billion in 2014. The key driver for this growth will be more devices coming online and a multitude of platforms and services growing up around them. Simultaneously, businesses are getting ready to digitally transform, thereby, creating new organizations and leadership roles. This transformation will give rise to varying degrees of adoption, experimentation and spending in the newest technologies. The foundation of Smart Cities will be built on open, scalable, futuristic, and converged infrastructure, which will be complemented first by data solutions and then, applications. Security will be a key factor as far as Smart Cities are concerned since they will run on primarily on technology. Along with digital transformation, information/data security will be a key consideration for Smart Cities. IoT and Big Data will play a key role in the day to day functioning of the Smart City, assisting city officials and administrators to take smart decisions, allocate resources in the most efficient and effective way, and provide citizens with the right information at the right time to improve the quality of life for everyone.
