Sri Lanka and Microsoft Collaborate to Propel AI Journey Forward

In March 2024, Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, made his inaugural visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office in September 2023. During his two-day visit, Chandok engaged in discussions with Hon. President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Hon. Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to explore the potential of AI in driving societal progress and advancing Sri Lanka's digital transformation.

To enhance global competitiveness and embrace the digital era, Microsoft and the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka, have partnered through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate AI into the national school curriculum, starting in grade 8. This initiative aims to equip students with vital skills for the future.

“We discussed how Microsoft can build on its partnership with the government of Sri Lanka to solve challenges faced by communities. The MoU with the Ministry of Education is exemplary of that work, and we are proud to play a role in advancing Sri Lanka’s innovation agenda with a boost to the ICT sector. As AI continues to be the defining technology of our time, Microsoft is committed to being Sri Lanka’s copilot for economic and societal transformation.” added Chandok.

In a collaborative finale, Puneet concluded his visit by engaging with key business leaders and CXOs in a special session dubbed 'Microsoft CEO Connect. During this session, they sparked dynamic discussions on the transformative power of AI across industries, emphasising Microsoft's commitment to providing Sri Lankan organisations with leading-edge technologies to drive innovation forward.
