IoT Congress 2019 At Bengaluru Will Focus On Bringing IoT Into The Mainstream
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has a lineage dating back to 1871 and was setup as a not-for-profit membership body with a purpose to advance the engineering community and facilitate the exchange of information and ideas among its members. IET India members setup the IoT Panel in 2015 under the leadership of Dr Rishi Bhatnagar, President, Aeris Communications. The IoT Panel has since evangelized an annual event IoT India Congress which is in its 4th edition and will be held at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru on 22nd and 23rd August 2019.
“IoT Congress is a platform of platform for the Internet of things. The platform will bring the academia, industry and the government on to a single platform to shape and impact the diffusion of Internet of things in India,” said Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head, IET India while speaking at the event hosted by IET to launch the fourth edition of the IoT Congress. IoT is set to expand across the globe and will touch all sectors of the global economy. IET projects that the IoT business in India will grow at 28% over the next five years.
The IoT Panel since its inception in 2015 has formed 11 working groups comprising of veterans and leading experts from the academia, industry and the government. “IoT Panel would like to announce the formation of 2 additional working groups; one focused on BFSI and the other on Mobility,” said Dr. Rishi Bhatnagar, Chairman IoT at the launch event. Mr. N Sivasailam, Special Secretary – Logistics, Ministry of Commerce and Industry was the chief guest and blessed the IoT Congress by formally launching it by unveiling the event brochure. Mr. Sivasailam addressed the gathering and said “I appreciate the role played by open forums such as IoT Panel. We are at the cusp of the IoT revolution and India has an opportunity to emerge as a global leader. And such forums like the IoT panel give a fillip to this cause while I remain disappointed by lack of diffusion of IoT in my own sector; the logistics industry inspite of it being ripe and low hanging area for IoT. Logistics industry associations are brilliantly organized as business forums and are characterized by ‘co-operative’ competition. But they are primarily business forums and therefore I encourage the IoT Panel to engage the logistics industry associations and facilitate the technology behind the IoT and the business proposal. The Ministry of Commerce is keen on applying technology to multimodal transportation of goods for bringing down logistics costs and in the process making Indian goods more competitive in the global market.” He further added that “hackathons should become consequential in converting ideas into businesses”
The event organizers released the event agenda which is spread across two days and ten tracks to cover Manufacturing, Smart Cities, Digital Communication, Healthcare, IoT Standards and Regulations, Skills and Development, Cybersecurity, Retail, Agriculture, and Utility. The event is expected to bring together a large number of exhibitors, sharing of use cases, business decision maker footfall and thought leadership awards and keynotes by some of the reputed practitioners from the digital technology industry.
