HBO hackers have reportedly threatened to release the season finale of Game of Thrones, a complete seven days ahead of its air date.
After a series of hacks, accidental leaks and social media account takeovers, the malicious hackers are back and this time they are threatening to release the season finale of GOT Season 7.
Mashable reports that the group reached out to them and revealed what seems to be the login details of almost every social media account that the channel operates.
Ankush Johar, director of BugsBounty.com - a crowdsourced security platform for ethical hackers and organisations, said: “This ‘episode’ appears to be titled Game of Thorns for HBO!
"First the HBO hack, then the Episode 4 leak from India, then the accidental leak of Episode 6 from Spain, then the botched negotiation of a bug bounty, followed by social media account hacks and now the threat of the release of the season finale!”
“This lesson for HBO proves the value of incorporating threat-intelligence and breach detection mechanisms that quickly detect and help mitigate this risk. A pre-emptive Bug Bounty program could have gone a long way for HBO too.”
