Four Prescriptions For Digital India: Dr Lovneesh Chanana

Taking the platform of BW Businessworld’s Digital India Summit, Dr Lovneesh Chanana, vice-president for government relations in SAP India Ltd shared his insights on how to fasten the process of digitising India.

“It is essential to focus on ground level prescriptions to trigger a larger thought process and change,” said Chanana. According to him, the path to Digital India can be achieved in five simple steps:

1. A bigger collaboration between government and the industry
At every step of initiating digitalisation, the government and IT industry have to work together. “Industry has been involved at the stage of procurement of decisions and initiatives,” said Chanana. Citing the example of GST, he discussed how the industry was involved throughout the process, from its foundation of concept till date.

2. From capacity building to culture building
“I’m not undermining the need of capacity building, but the concept of culture building needs to be emphasised upon too,” expressed Chanana. Talking about the Gujarat initiative of Saathi, he shared how it has promoted government to employee (G2E) relationship and promoted the space of Digital India.

3. Moving forward towards technology application
According to him, emphasis should be put on mobile application usage since mobile users in India are increasing. Citing the example of Telangana and Goa signing MOUs recently, he urged for a complete re-invention of model to ensure that more and more citizens get educated about mobile based application systems.

4. Project ‘Digital India’ to the world
The digital space is the thread between industry, government and users. Larger awareness among the citizens from all professions needs to be created in order to ensure digitisation transpires at a faster pace. “It would trigger larger thought process and change, at a larger spectrum,” Chanana shared.
