Oracle Executive Chairman of Global Cloud and CTO Larry Ellison unveiled the Gen2 Oracle Cloud with autonomous capabilities, enhanced security and improved upgrades for the enterprises. He spoke highly about automation in his opening keynote at Oracle OpenWorld 2018 in San Francisco on Monday.
The focus of his keynote being the next generation of cloud computing and autonomous database, Ellison announced the Generation 2 Oracle Cloud. He explained how oracle built a generation through cloud by observing the current state-of-the-art cloud defenses which are not in a good shape as top technology companies and government agencies have been penetrated with threats while businesses and the ever proliferation of data remains to be vulnerable.
On the sidelines of the announcement, Larry spoke of automation saying, “Autonomous robots or Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning robots find and kill threats through which database immediately patches itself while running andultimately stops data theft.” He said automation prevents delay from human process or downtime window so it is no longer people versus robots but our robots versus robots now. “Eliminating human labor eliminates human errors so we have upgraded our cloud withautomatic provisioning, scaling tuning, security, fault tolerant fail-over, backup and recovery. So the new cloud is fully automated.” he added.
While Ellison claimed that the Gen2 cloud is purpose built for enterprises which is more secure and technologically advanced than any other of its competitors in the market, he mentioned how a completely new hardware reconstruction wasrequired for the cloud. “Primary advantage of Oracle’s Generation 2 cloud is that the new cloud architecture has built-in security from core to edge, it has superior economics with automation as well as price performance, and it provides easy to move enterpriseworkloads to cloud; meaning protection of investment at the same time.
Oracle Generation 2 Cloud is a one unified architecture with a secure platform for all applications. Ellison said that the Gen 2 cloud is a foundation for autonomous database which is an extensible platform for SaaS applications and runsenterprise and cloud native applications. Its other design goals include support to better functionality and performance than on premises, improved automation and easy connect to datacenter. On the security front, it secures users, applications, data and infrastructure.
