Industry experts attending the GDPR IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR CONFERENCE will hold seminars to assist and support public sector organisations to prepare for the regulation.
The GDPR conference is aimed at showing public institutions new data management technologies and tools as well as providing key talks on how to be compliant in line with data security requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation law.
The new regulations are intended to improve cyber security and reduce the possibility of data breaches, thus reducing the chances of personal information and data from being released. Organisations with greater transparency and strengthened information security measures will instil wider public trust.
Under GDPR rules, regulators have the power to audit systems, measures, and reporting procedures in the event of a data breach. Institutions are required to appoint a data protection officer (DPO) to manage compliance and reporting.
Documentation regarding consent and erasure of personal information is now stricter, and greater accountability and transparency is now required. The Information Commissioner’s Office (the ICO) will be empowered by GDPR to levy fines amounting up to 4 percent of global annual revenue, depending on the nature of the data breach.
